Steam Cleaning: How it works?

A lot of people are aware of steam cleaning and its effectiveness, but ironically very few know how the technique actually works. Steam cleaners are simple and use steam to clean dirt, grime, and grease. However, they can also prove useful to eliminate dust mites, bacteria and even viruses. 

These devices are not newly invented and have been around for quite a while. Their commercial exposure have been the first to come into notice and later on, they found usefulness in domestic fields too. Now steam cleaners are widely used in both Commercial and domestic cleaning

The whole concept behind steam cleaners is quite simple. Water is heated by the cleaner inside its own boiler and then raised to a temperature of about 300 degree Fahrenheit. This causes the water to form a low moisture steam vapour. Then this vapour is pumped through the extractors, causing the temperature to go down to about 230 degrees Fahrenheit. This is the basic idea behind a steam cleaner. 

There are a few types of steam cleaners. Regular steam cleaners are already discussed above and the second one is deep-steam alternatives. Unlike the regular steam cleaner, the deep-steam one uses higher moisture percentage in its vapour. Another type of steam cleaner is the vapor cleaners. This type of cleaner uses suction to pick up particles. 

Deep-Steam Cleaners are known to clean carpets whereas vapour cleaners are used to clean a wide range of surfaces. They can be used on carpets in addition to other surfaces like tile, grout, upholstery, window sills and car’s interior. As this type uses moisture content of under 6%, which is less than in the air we breathe, you can be assured that your carpets or upholstery will not get over-saturated. 

Boiler – The name is self-explanatory. This part boils the water and turns it into steam.

Refill tank – Commercial grade cleaners are equipped with a refill tank that allows the user to add normal temperature water to the boiler without having to depressurise it. 

Detergent tanks – These tanks hold and dispense cleaning chemicals. Some cleaners have controls in handle for user to regulate the detergent and steam flow. 

Steam vacuum – Some cleaners come with built-in vacuums that empty the contents of the cleaner into extraction tanks of up to 35 litres. steam cleaners.
